Classical BackgroundEdit

In Greek mythology, Demeter was the goddess of the harvest and grains. She was considered to be the reason for the seasons, in that when Persephone was in the Underworld, she caused winter to befall the world as she spent three months out of the year in seclusion and mourning for her daughter.

Role In The SeriesEdit

Demeter plays a major role in A Tangled Web as the mother of Persephone. She lives in a small cottage with her daughter in what seems to be idyllic bliss. But her daugher Persephone is rebellious and wishes to escape from her mother, and is already in love with Hades, god of the dead. Demeter in addition to being the goddess of the harvest also cause storms and takes in orphaned creatures who share Persephone's bedroom, much to her chagrin. While Persephone longs to escape, her mother wishes to pair her with another God and keep her a little girl as long as possible. When Persephone vanishes, Demeter thinks she has been taken by force, rather then gone of her own free will.

Demeter then goes to great lengths to obtain her daughter back, starting with summoning her dark sister Hecate, who takes her to Zeus. When Leo shows up, claiming his wife stolen, Demeter begins to break down and runs away. As such, the Kingdom begins to wither.
